END OF LIFE of our Computer-Based Training

September 30, 2018 is the scheduled End of Life for our computer-based (also known as “installed”) training products. The software that we use to create all of our training has been mothballed forcing us to switch to a new development platform that doesn’t give us the option of providing an installed version of our courseware. Further, because the tools we use to create the training are no longer supported, we are in a precarious position in being able to support our customers who use those products.

While we know that the installed version works best for some of our customers, for the past 3 years over 98% of our sales have been with our online training options while sales of our installed (computer-based) products have trickled to less than 2% in recent years. This is why we are focusing our resources on enhancing and expanding our online products rather than seeking alternatives to our installed products. This shift is happening throughout the software industry as developers across the board are moving to cloud-based software as a service.

If you are having a problem with our computer-based training:

  1. Our Knowledge Base lists just about every problem we have ever had is documented in the knowledge base. The Knowledge Base is available 24/7/365 and is available regardless of the status of your support agreement.
  2. If you have an active support agreement:
    • Email us. Sometimes, especially outside of business hours, email is faster than phone support.
      • Be sure to provide a detailed description of your problem. “I can’t get the program to run” does not give us enough information to know what your problem is. With that type of information all we can do is email you back and ask for more details.
    • Give us a call*: 1-800-810-8326 or 1-802-496-5888 (outside of North America). Official Tech Support hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm EST Monday through Friday. However, if you call in the evening or on the weekend, there is a good chance someone will be here to help you.
  3. If you do not have an active support agreement:
    • Call us or email us to discuss upgrade options.
    • If you have moved the software to a new computer, call or email us with the course title, version number and license ID.  We will help you get the course licensed on the new computer.

Version History of Computer-Based Training

  • Current Major Version for all courses: 5.1.0.xx. The computer-based version was released in January 2015. The ability to purchase a 1 year support agreement for these products, if eligible, ends on September 30, 2017. The End Of Life for Computer-Based Training is September 30, 2018.
  • Version 4.x was released on October 2011 and was retired on 1/1/2016 and is no longer supported. Self-service support is available through our knowledge base.
  • Version 3.x products were retired on 1/1/2013 and are no longer supported. Self-service support is available through our knowledge base.
  • Version 2.x products were retired on 1/1/2007 and are no longer supported. Self-service support is available through our knowledge base.
  • Version 1.x products were retired on 1/15/03 and are no longer supported.

Support Policy for Computer-Based Training Products

Annual Support and Upgrade Agreement

  • One-year free Support and Upgrades is included with the purchase of all courseware.
  • A valid Support and Upgrade Agreement entitles you to unlimited technical support (toll-free phone, e-mail or through our Knowledge Base) and no-charge updates and upgrades to the courseware and the Learning Management Center.
  • Upgrades and updates can be downloaded through the QualityTrainingPortal Learning Management System.
  • Updates are minor version changes to correct functionality issues, and to make small content, graphic and audio changes. You may or may not receive notification of these changes (depending on the significance of the update) if you have an active Support and Upgrades Agreement, but you can always check for updates by logging into the download area.
  • Upgrades are major version changes that make training compatible with new versions of windows or that represent significant changes in program functionality or look and feel. You will always receive notification about upgrades and we encourage you to upgrade your products as soon as possible.

Support and Upgrade Agreements are no longer available because the CBT Products are nearing End of Life.

You must have an active support agreement in order to renew your support. We allow a one month grace period after the expiration of the current agreement within which you still may renew your support agreement.

Support & Upgrade Agreement Renewal Notification

All customers with Active Support Agreements have been notified about the End of Life for the Computer Based Training Products and have been offered the opportunity to upgrade to web-based training at a substantial discount.  While we are no longer offering that one-time discount, we can offer people who have computer-based training our standard upgrade discount for their first purchase of credits.  Please call us for more information.
